Algebra, chapter II, § 7. Vector spaces

Let ρ\rho be a homomorphism of a field KK into a ring AA. For every left vector space EE over KK, the canonical right AA-module homomorphism

v:(E∗)(A)→(E(A))∗ v : (E^*)_{(A)} \to (E_{(A)})^*

(§ 5, no. 4) is injective; it is bijective when EE is finite-dimensional.

The second assertion follows from § 5, no. 4, Proposition 8. To prove the first, we note that every element of (E∗)(A)(E^*)_{(A)} may be written as ∑ixi∗⊗αi\sum_i x_i^* \otimes \alpha_i, where αi∈A\alpha_i \in A and (xi∗)1≤i≤n(x_i^*)_{1 \leq i \leq n} is a free family in E∗E^*; there corresponds to it in (E(A))∗(E_{(A)})^* the linear form y∗y^* such that y∗(1⊗x)=∑iρ(⟨x,xi∗⟩)αiy^*(1 \otimes x) = \sum_i \rho(\langle x, x_i^* \rangle) \alpha_i for all x∈Ex \in E. But, there exists in EE a family (xi)1≤i≤n(x_i)_{1 \leq i \leq n} such that ⟨xi,xj∗⟩=δij\langle x_i, x_j^* \rangle = \delta_{ij} (no. 5, Corollary 2 to Theorem 7), whence y∗(1⊗xi)=αiy^*(1 \otimes x_i) = \alpha_i; the relation y∗=0y^* = 0 therefore implies αi=0\alpha_i = 0 for all ii, which proves our assertion.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
