Algebra, chapter II, § 7. Vector spaces
(i) Let be a finite sequence of linear forms on E. For to be a free system, it is necessary and sufficient that there exist a sequence of elements of E such that (Kronecker index).
(ii) Let be a finite sequence of elements of E. For to be a free system, it is necessary and sufficient that there exist a sequence of linear forms on E such that .
Clearly (ii) follows from (i) by considering E as identified with a subspace of by means of (Theorem 6). Let be the subspace of generated by the and F its orthogonal in E; E/F and can each be canonically identified with the dual of the other; if the family is free, there is in E/F a basis the dual of and every representative system of the classes has the required properties. Conversely, the existence of the system such that implies that for all the subspace of orthogonal to K. contains the of index but does not contain , hence the system is free.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
