Algebra, chapter II, § 7. Vector spaces

In a module EE over an integral domain AA, the torsion submodule of EE is the submodule of EE consisting of the non-free elements (also called the torsion elements of EE).

When EE is equal to its torsion submodule (that is when every element of EE is annihilated by an element ≠0\neq 0 of AA) EE is called a torsion module. When the torsion submodule of EE is reduced to 0 (that is every non-zero element of EE is free) EE is called (by an abuse of language) a torsion-free module.

Every submodule of a free AA-module (and in particular every projective AA-module) is torsion-free. The Z\mathbf{Z}-module Q\mathbf{Q} is torsion-free.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
