Algebra, chapter IV, § 6. Symmetric functions

— Let p1p_1 and q1q_1 be positive integers and f1,g1f_1, g_1 polynomials in A[X]A[X] such that deg⁡f1≤p1,deg⁡g1≤q1\deg f_1 \leq p_1, \deg g_1 \leq q_1; then we have

resp,q+q1(f,gg1)=resp,q(f,g)⋅resp,q1(f,g1) \text{res}_{p, q + q_1}(f, gg_1) = \text{res}_{p, q}(f, g) \cdot \text{res}_{p, q_1}(f, g_1)
resp+p1,q(ff1,g)=resp,q(f,g)⋅resp1,q(f1,g). \text{res}_{p + p_1, q}(ff_1, g) = \text{res}_{p, q}(f, g) \cdot \text{res}_{p_1, q}(f_1, g).

We have resp,q(f,g)=(−1)pqresq,p(g,f)\text{res}_{p, q}(f, g) = (-1)^{pq} \text{res}_{q, p}(g, f) (IV, p. 76); so it is enough to prove (35). Likewise, Remark 3 (loc. cit.) shows that if formula (35) is established for a polynomial ff, then it holds for all polynomials of the form Af, where A∈AA \in A. Finally, when f is monic of degree p, formula (35) follows from Prop. 7 (IV, p. 77) by the formula NE/A(ab)=NE/A(a)⋅NE/A(b)N_{E/A}(ab) = N_{E/A}(a) \cdot N_{E/A}(b). In all we conclude that (35) holds when the coefficient tpt_p of XpX^p in f is invertible.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
