Algebra, V, p. 10, § 2. Extensions

*Let K,E,FK, E, F be three fields such that K⊂E⊂FK \subset E \subset F and [F:K][F : K] is finite. Then the degrees [E:K][E : K] and [F:E][F : E] are divisors of [F:K][F : K].

If the degree [F:K][F : K] is prime, there is thus no subextension of FF other than KK and FF. But note that when [F:K][F : K] is not prime, there is not necessarily a subextension of FF other than KK and FF (cf. V, p. 146, Exercise 1).*

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
