Algebra, chapter V, § 7. Separable algebraic extensions

— Let EE be an extension of KK and EsE_s, the set of elements of EE which are algebraic and separable over KK. Then EsE_s, is the largest subextension of EE which is algebraic and separable over KK.

By Prop. 6, a) (VV, p. 39) every subextension of EE which is algebraic and separable over KK is contained in EsE_s. By Prop. 6, b) (loc. cit.) the extension K(Es)K(E_s) of KK is algebraic and separable, whence K(Es)⊂EK(E_s) \subset E, and so K(Es)=EsK(E_s) = E_s.

With the notation of the preceding proposition, E, is called the relative separable (algebraic) closure of K in E. When K is perfect, E, is the relative algebraic closure of K in E (V, p. 36, Prop. 2).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
