Algebra, V, p. 136, § 16. Differential criteria of separability

Let LL be an extension of a field KK. A transcendence basis BB of LL over KK is said to be separating if the algebraic extension LL of K(B)K(B) is separable.

If KK has characteristic 0, every transcendence basis of LL over KK is separating because every algebraic extension of a field of characteristic 0 is separable (VV, p. 37, Cor.). If an extension admits a separating transcendence basis, it is separable (VV, p. 121, Prop. 6 and p. 122, Prop. 9). The following theorem shows that every finitely generated separable extension admits a separating transcendence basis; this restriction is essential (VV, p. 177, Ex. 1).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
