Algebra, chapter VI, § 1. Ordered groups. Divisibility

— If PP is a subset of an abelian group GG, containing 00 and such that P+P⊂PP + P \subset P, then the relation y−x∈Py - x \in P is a pre-order relation compatible with the group structure of GG. For this relation to make GG an ordered group it is necessary and sufficient to have P∩(−P)={0}P \cap (-P) = \{0\}; for GG to be a totally ordered group under this ordering it is necessary and sufficient to have in addition P∪(−P)=GP \cup (-P) = G.

It is immediate that the relation y−x∈Py - x \in P is reflexive and transitive, and (if it is written x≤yx \leq y) satisfies the axiom POM. To prove the second assertion it is enough to remark that P∩(−P)P \cap (-P) is the subgroup G′G' consisting of elements xx such that 0≤x0 \leq x and x≤0x \leq 0. Finally, to say that GG is totally ordered means that, for each pair of elements x,yx, y of GG, at least one of the elements x−y,y−xx - y, y - x belongs to PP, which completes the proof.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
