Topological Vector Spaces, chapter I, § 2. Linear varieties in a topological vector space

In the normed space C(I;C)\mathscr{C}(I; \mathbf{C}) of functions that are continuous over I={0,1}I = \{0, 1\}, the restriction to I of the functions xnx^n (n∈Nn \in \mathbf{N}) form an algebraically independent family. But there exists a sequence of polynomials (pn)(p_n) such that pn(x2)p_n(x^2) converges uniformly to xx in I (GT, X, § 4.2, lemma 2) which shows that xx belongs to the closed vector subspace of C(I;C)\mathscr{C}(I; \mathbf{C}) generated by the functions x2nx^{2n} (n∈Nn \in \mathbf{N}).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
