Topological Vector Spaces, I, p. 12, § 2. Linear varieties in a topological vector space
Every Hausdorff topological vector space E of dimension 1 over a non-discrete valued division ring K is isomorphic to ; in fact, for every in E, the mapping of on E is an isomorphism (in other words every linear mapping of* on E is an isomorphism).
As the mapping of on E is bijective and continuous (I, p. 1, def. 1), it is sufficient to show that it is bicontinuous. Let be a real number , we show that there exists a neighbourhood V of 0 in E such that if then . As K is not discrete, there exists an element such that ; but, as E is Hausdorff, there is a neighbourhood V of 0 such that does not belong to V. We can suppose that V is balanced (I, p. 7, prop. 4). But then if and we have , and ; since this last statement is false we see that implies . This completes the proof.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
