Topological Vector Spaces, chapter II, § 4. Locally convex spaces

— Let F\mathfrak{F} be a Cauchy filter on EE (for T\mathscr{T}); then there exists an integer kk, such that for all N∈FN \in \mathfrak{F} and every neighbourhood VV of 00 in EE, the subspace EkE_k meets N+VN + V.

We assume the contrary and obtain a contradiction. Suppose that for every kk there exists a convex neighbourhood VkV_k of 00 and a set Mk∈FM_k \in \mathfrak{F} such that

(Ek+Vk)∩Mk=∅. (E_k + V_k) \cap M_k = \varnothing.
Clearly we can suppose that Vk+1⊂VkV_{k+1} \subset V_k for all kk. Let VV be the convex envelope of ⋃k(Ek∩Vk)\bigcup_k (E_k \cap V_k), this is clearly a neighbourhood of 00 for T\mathscr{T}. For all nn we have V⊂Vn+EnV \subset V_n + E_n; in fact, every x∈Vx \in V can be written ∑iλixi\sum_i \lambda_i x_i where λi≥0\lambda_i \geq 0, ∑iλi=1\sum_i \lambda_i = 1 and xi∈Vi∩Eix_i \in V_i \cap E_i for all ii; now for i<ni < n we have xi∈Enx_i \in E_n, therefore ∑i<nλixi∈En\sum_{i < n} \lambda_i x_i \in E_n; and for i≥ni \geq n we have xi∈Vnx_i \in V_n, therefore ∑i≥nλixi∈Vn\sum_{i \geq n} \lambda_i x_i \in V_n since VnV_n is convex, contains 00 and ∑i≥nλi≤1\sum_{i \geq n} \lambda_i \leq 1. Hence V+En⊂Vn+EnV + E_n \subset V_n + E_n for all nn. This being so, let M∈FM \in \mathfrak{F} be a set that is VV-small. For some integer mm, Em∩ME_m \cap M is not empty; and we conclude that
M⊂Em+V⊂Em+Vm; M \subset E_m + V \subset E_m + V_m;
as F\mathfrak{F} is a filter, the set MmM_m meets MM and therefore Em+VmE_m + V_m; we have a contradiction which establishes the lemma.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
