Topological Vector Spaces, chapter IV, § 3. Dual of a Fréchet space

— *Let HH be a hilbertian space satisfying the first axiom of countability; let HσH_{\sigma} denote the space HH with the weakened topology assigned to it. Let L1(H)\mathscr{L}^1(H) be the Banach space of nuclear endomorphisms of HH (V, p. 51, and TS, V); the norm in L1(H)\mathscr{L}^1(H) is defined by ∥u∥1=Tr⁡((u∗u)1/2)\|u\|_1 = \operatorname{Tr}((u^*u)^{1/2}). We can identify L(H)\mathscr{L}(H) with the dual of the Banach space L1(H)\mathscr{L}^1(H) by associating the linear form ϕu:v↦Tr⁡(uv)\phi_u : v \mapsto \operatorname{Tr}(uv) on L1(H)\mathscr{L}^1(H) with every u∈L(H)u \in \mathscr{L}(H). Let AA be a sub-algebra of L(H)\mathscr{L}(H), containing 1 and stable under u↦u∗u \mapsto u^*; this is a von Neumann algebra if and only if it is closed in L(H)\mathscr{L}(H) for the weak topology σ(L(H),L1(H))\sigma(\mathscr{L}(H), \mathscr{L}^1(H)). From cor. 3, we deduce the following criterion : for AA to be a von Neumann algebra, it is necessary and sufficient that if (un)(u_n) is any sequence of elements of AA with norm ⩽1\leqslant 1 having a limit uu in the space Ls(H;Hσ)\mathscr{L}_s(H ; H_{\sigma}), then uu belongs to AA.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
