Topological Vector Spaces, chapter V, § 4. Some classes of operators in hilbertian spaces

(i) The initial (resp. final) subspace of u∗u^* is equal to the final (resp. initial) subspace of uu.

(ii) Suppose that E=FE = F. Let MM be a closed vector subspace of EE and M∘M^\circ its orthogonal. The relations u(M)⊂Mu(M) \subset M and u∗(M∘)⊂M∘u^*(M^\circ) \subset M^\circ are equivalent.

Let Q=u(E)‾Q = \overline{u(E)} be the final subspace of uu. The orthogonal Q∘Q^\circ of QQ in FF consists of all vectors yy such that ⟨u(x)∣y⟩=0\langle u(x)|y\rangle = 0 for all x∈Ex \in E; this is equivalent to : ⟨x∣u∗(y)⟩=0\langle x|u^*(y)\rangle = 0 for all x∈Ex \in E, or to u∗(y)=0u^*(y) = 0. Hence we have Q∘=Ker u∗Q^\circ = \mathrm{Ker}\, u^*, and QQ is the initial subspace of u∗u^*. Since uu is the adjoint of u∗u^*, the final subspace of u∗u^* is also the initial subspace of uu. This proves (i).

The relation u(M)⊂Mu(M) \subset M implies that u(M)u(M) is orthogonal to M∘M^\circ, and the relation u∗(M∘)⊂M∘u^*(M^\circ) \subset M^\circ implies that u∗(M∘)u^*(M^\circ) is orthogonal to MM. But we have ⟨u(x)∣y⟩=⟨u∗(y)∣x⟩\langle u(x)|y\rangle = \langle u^*(y)|x\rangle for all x∈Mx \in M and y∈M∘y \in M^\circ; hence (ii) follows.

We remark that prop. 4 can be deduced from the general properties of the transpose (II, p. 51, cor. 2) in view of remark 3, V, p. 41.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
