Integration, chapter III, § 1. Measures on a locally compact space

— For every measure μ\mu on a compact space XX,

(23)

∥μ∥=∣μ∣(1)=∫d∣μ∣. \|\mu\| = |\mu|(1) = \int d|\mu|.

This formula will be generalized in Ch. IV, §4, No. 7.

On a compact space XX, for every (complex) measure μ\mu on XX the complex number μ(1)\mu(1) is called the total mass of μ\mu. When μ\mu is positive, its total mass is thus equal to its norm. When μ\mu is a positive measure on a compact space XX, of total mass equal to 1, one also says that its value μ(f)\mu(f) for a continuous function f∈C(X;C)f \in \mathscr{C}(X; \mathbf{C}) is the mean of ff with respect to the measure μ\mu.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
