Integration, IV, p. 28, § 3. LP spaces

If ff and gg are two functions in Lp\mathscr{L}^p such that 0≤f≤g0 \leq f \leq g, then

(Np(g−f))p≤(Np(g))p−(Np(f))p. (N_p(g - f))^p \leq (N_p(g))^p - (N_p(f))^p .

When ff and gg are continuous with compact support, the relation (9) may be written

∫(g−f)pd∣μ∣≤∫gpd∣μ∣−∫fpd∣μ∣ \int (g - f)^p d|\mu| \leq \int g^p d|\mu| - \int f^p d|\mu|

and is then a consequence of the elementary inequality (g−f)p≤gp−fp(g - f)^p \leq g^p - f^p (No. 1, formula (2)). To pass from this to the general case, it suffices to observe that the two members of (9) are continuous functions on Lp×Lp\mathscr{L}^p \times \mathscr{L}^p, and that every function f≥0f \geq 0 in Lp\mathscr{L}^p is the limit (for convergence in mean of order pp) of a sequence of continuous functions ≥0\geq 0 with compact support, by the continuity of the mapping g↦∣g∣g \mapsto |g| on Lp\mathscr{L}^p (Prop. 11).

The lemma having been established, for every ε>0\varepsilon > 0 there exists by hypothesis an f~∈H\tilde{f} \in \mathrm{H} such that, for every g~≥f~\tilde{g} \geq \tilde{f} belonging to H\mathrm{H}, we have (∥g~∥p)p−(∥f~∥p)p≤ε(\|\tilde{g}\|_p)^p - (\|\tilde{f}\|_p)^p \leq \varepsilon; from this it follows that (∥g~−f~∥p)p≤ε(\|\tilde{g} - \tilde{f}\|_p)^p \leq \varepsilon; thus, if g~1\tilde{g}_1 and g~2\tilde{g}_2 are two elements in H\mathrm{H} that are ≥f~\geq \tilde{f}, then ∥g~1−g~2∥p≤2ε1/p\|\tilde{g}_1 - \tilde{g}_2\|_p \leq 2\varepsilon^{1/p}, which proves that F\mathfrak{F} is a Cauchy filter base on LpL^p and completes the proof of Prop. 14.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
