Integration, chapter VIII, § 4. Convolution of measures and functions

— Let G be a locally compact group, Γ\Gamma a set equipped with a multiplication (u,v)↦uv(u, v) \mapsto uv and a Hausdorff topology such that: 1) the topology of Γ\Gamma is invariant under the translations; 2) the restriction of the multiplication to every compact subset of Γ×Γ\Gamma \times \Gamma is continuous.

Let f:G→Γf : G \to \Gamma be a mapping of G into Γ\Gamma such that f(xy)=f(x)f(y)f(xy) = f(x)f(y) for x,yx, y in G, and measurable for a Haar measure β\beta on G. Then ff is continuous.

Set g(x)=f(x−1)g(x) = f(x^{-1}) for x∈Gx \in G. Since ff and gg are β\beta-measurable, there exists a non β\beta-negligible compact subset K of G such that the restrictions of ff and gg to K are continuous. The mapping (x,y)↦f(xy−1)=f(x)g(y)(x, y) \mapsto f(xy^{-1}) = f(x)g(y) of K×KK \times K into Γ\Gamma is continuous because the multiplication of Γ\Gamma is continuous on f(K)×g(K)f(K) \times g(K); now, this mapping may be written as φ∘ψ\varphi \circ \psi, where ψ\psi is the mapping (x,y)↦xy−1(x, y) \mapsto xy^{-1} of K×KK \times K onto K⋅K−1K \cdot K^{-1}, and φ\varphi is the restriction of ff to K⋅K−1K \cdot K^{-1}. Let RR be the equivalence relation defined on K×KK \times K by ψ\psi. The mapping ψ′\psi' of (K×K)/R(K \times K)/R onto K⋅K−1K \cdot K^{-1} deduced from ψ\psi by passage to the quotient is continuous, therefore (K×K)/R(K \times K)/R is Hausdorff and ψ′\psi' is a homeomorphism. Since φ∘ψ\varphi \circ \psi is continuous, one sees that the restriction of ff to K⋅K−1K \cdot K^{-1} is continuous. Now, K⋅K−1K \cdot K^{-1} is a neighborhood of ee (Prop. 17), therefore ff is continuous at ee. For every x0∈Gx_0 \in G, f(x0x)=f(x0)f(x)f(x_0x) = f(x_0)f(x), thus ff is continuous at x0x_0 because the topology of Γ\Gamma is invariant under translations.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
