Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 3. Representations

Suppose that KK is a field and that the Lie algebra gg is finite-dimensional over KK. The Killing form β\beta of gg is completely invariant.

Let DD be a derivation of gg. There exists a Lie algebra g′g' containing gg as an ideal of codimension 1 and an element x0x_0 of g′g' such that Dx=[x0,x]Dx = [x_0, x] for all x∈gx \in g (§ 1, no. 8, Example 1). Let β′\beta' be the Killing form of g′g'. For x,yx, y in gg, β′([x,x0],y)=β′(x,[x0,y])\beta'([x, x_0], y) = \beta'(x, [x_0, y]), that is β′(Dx,y)+β′(x,Dy)=0\beta'(Dx, y) + \beta'(x, Dy) = 0. Now the restriction of β′\beta' to gg is β\beta (Proposition 9). Hence the proposition.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
