Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 5. Solvable Lie algebras

The radical rr of a Lie algebra gg is the smallest ideal of gg such that g/rg/r has radical {0}\{0\}.

Let aa be an ideal of gg and ϕ\phi the canonical mapping of gg onto g/ag/a. If the radical of g/ag/a is zero, then ϕ(r)\phi(r), which is a solvable ideal of g/ag/a, is zero; hence r⊂ar \subset a.

On the other hand, the inverse image ϕ−1(r′)\phi^{-1}(r') of the radical r′r' of g/rg/r is an ideal of gg which is solvable by Proposition 1 and hence is equal to rr; therefore r′={0}r' = \{0\}.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
