Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 6. Semi-simple Lie algebras

An element x of g is a semi-simple (resp. nilpotent) endomorphism of M if and only if adgxad_g x is a semi-simple (resp. nilpotent) endomorphism of g.

Let s (resp. n) be the semi-simple (resp. nilpotent) component of x∈gx \in g. Then s∈gs \in g and n∈gn \in g (Proposition 3). Then adgsad_g s (resp. adgnad_g n) is the semi-simple (resp. nilpotent) component of adgxad_g x, by Lemma 2 of §5§ 5, no. 4. If x is semi-simple (resp. nilpotent) so then is adgxad_g x. If now adgxad_g x is semi-simple (resp. nilpotent), it is equal to adgsad_g s (resp. adgnad_g n) and hence x=sx = s (resp. x=nx = n) since the adjoint representation of g is faithful.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
