Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 6. Semi-simple Lie algebras

Let gg be a Lie algebra and rr its radical. A Levi subalgebra of gg is any subalgebra of gg supplementary to rr.

A Levi subalgebra is isomorphic to g/rg/r and hence is semi-simple. As a semi-simple subalgebra has only 0 in common with rr, every semi-simple subalgebra hh such that g=r+hg = r + h is a Levi subalgebra; consequently the image of a Levi subalgebra under a surjective homomorphism is a Levi subalgebra.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
