Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter II, § 5. Magnus algebras

*Let σ\sigma be the continuous endomorphism of A^(X)\hat{A}(X) such that σ(x)=x+r(x)\sigma(x) = x + r(x) for x∈Xx \in X (no. 1, Proposition 1). Then σ\sigma is an automorphism and σ(A^m(X))=A^m(X)\sigma(\hat{A}_m(X)) = \hat{A}_m(X) for all m∈Nm \in \mathbf{N}.

σ(x)≡xmod  A^2(X)\sigma(x) \equiv x \mod \hat{A}_2(X) for x∈Xx \in X, whence, for n≥1n \geq 1 and x1,…,xnx_1, \ldots, x_n in XX,

σ(x1)…σ(xn)≡x1…xnmod  A^n+1(X); \sigma(x_1) \ldots \sigma(x_n) \equiv x_1 \ldots x_n \mod \hat{A}_{n+1}(X);
it follows by linearity that σ(a)≡a\sigma(a) \equiv a modulo A^n+1(X)\hat{A}_{n+1}(X) for all a∈An(X)a \in A^n(X) and in particular σ(An(X))⊂A^n(X)\sigma(A^n(X)) \subset \hat{A}_n(X). It follows that σ(An(X))⊂A^n(X)\sigma(A^n(X)) \subset \hat{A}_n(X) for m≥nm \geq n, whence σ(A^n(X))⊂A^n(X)\sigma(\hat{A}_n(X)) \subset \hat{A}_n(X). In other words, σ\sigma is compatible with the filtration (A^m(X))(\hat{A}_m(X)) on A(X)A(X) and its restriction to the associated graded ring is the identity. Hence σ\sigma is bijective (Commutative Algebra, Chapter III, § 2, no. 8, Corollary 3 to Theorem 1).

Finally we prove Theorem 1. Let w≠1w \neq 1 be an element of F(X)F(X). By Algebra, Chapter I, § 7, no. 5, Proposition 7, there exist x1,…,xsx_1, \ldots, x_s in XX and non-zero rational integers n1,…,nsn_1, \ldots, n_s such that s≥1s \geq 1, xi≠xi+1x_i \neq x_{i+1} (1≤i≤s−11 \leq i \leq s-1) and

w=x1n1…xsns. w = x_1^{n_1} \ldots x_s^{n_s}.
In the notation of Lemma 4,
g(w)=∏(1+σ(xi))ni=σ(∏(1+xi)ni), g(w) = \prod (1 + \sigma(x_i))^{n_i} = \sigma(\prod (1 + x_i)^{n_i}),
hence g(w)≠1g(w) \neq 1 by Lemmas 3 and 4.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
