Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter III, § 6. Real and complex Lie groups
(1) Let be the universal complexification of . Let (resp. ) be the identity component of (resp. ). By the proof of Proposition 20, is the universal complexification of and the composite morphism
(2) Suppose that is simply connected. Let , be the complexification of , the simply connected complex Lie group with Lie algebra and the morphism of into such that is the canonical injection of into . We again use the notation of the proof of Proposition 20, part (a). If and , then . Hence is the universal complexification of . Note that is not in general injective (Exercise 16); however its kernel is discrete since is injective. On the other hand, let be the involution of defined by and let be the corresponding automorphism of the underlying real Lie group of ; let be the set of points of invariant under ; it is a real Lie subgroup of with Lie algebra (§ 3, no. 8, Corollary 1 to Proposition 29). By no. 1, Corollary 1 to Proposition 1, is a real integral subgroup of with Lie algebra and hence is the identity component of ; in particular is a real Lie subgroup of .
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
