General Topology, chapter I, § 3. Subspaces, quotient spaces

*Consider the equivalence relation x≡y(mod1)x \equiv y \pmod{1} on the real line R\mathbf{R}; the quotient space of R\mathbf{R} by this relation is called the one-dimensional torus and is denoted by TT. The equivalence class of a point x∈Rx \in \mathbf{R} consists of all the points x+nx + n, where nn runs through the set Z\mathbf{Z} of rational integers. By Proposition 6 there is a one-to-one correspondence between the continuous functions on TT and the continuous functions on R\mathbf{R} which are periodic with period 1. We shall return to this important example in Chapter V, § 1.*

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
