General Topology, chapter I, § 3. Subspaces, quotient spaces
Let be a topological space, an equivalence relation on , the canonical mapping of onto ; then a mapping of into a topological space is continuous if and only if is continuous on .
This is a particular case of § 2, no. 4, Proposition 6; it expresses the fact that the quotient topology is the final topology for the mapping .
Proposition 6 shows that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the continuous mappings of into and the continuous maps of into which are constant on each equivalence class mod .
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
