General Topology, chapter I, § 6. Filters

Let F\mathfrak{F} be an ultrafilter on a set XX. If AA and BB are two subsets of XX such that A∪B∈FA \cup B \in \mathfrak{F}, then either A∈FA \in \mathfrak{F} or B∈FB \in \mathfrak{F}.

If the proposition is false, there exist subsets AA and BB of XX such that A∉FA \notin \mathfrak{F} and B∉FB \notin \mathfrak{F} and A∪B∈FA \cup B \in \mathfrak{F}. Let G\mathfrak{G} be the set of subsets MM of XX such that A∪M∈FA \cup M \in \mathfrak{F}. It is straightforward to check that G\mathfrak{G} is a filter on XX, and G\mathfrak{G} is strictly finer than F\mathfrak{F}, since B∈GB \in \mathfrak{G}; but this contradicts the hypothesis that F\mathfrak{F} is an ultrafilter.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
