General Topology, chapter I, § 6. Filters

If the union of a finite sequence (Ai)1≤i≤n(A_i)_{1 \leq i \leq n} of subsets of XX belongs to an ultrafilter F\mathfrak{F}, then at least one of the AiA_i belongs to F\mathfrak{F}.

Proof is by induction on nn. In particular, if (Ai)1≤i≤n(A_i)_{1 \leq i \leq n} is a covering of XX, then at least one of the AiA_i belongs to F\mathfrak{F}. Proposition 5 characterizes the ultrafilters; more generally, we have:

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
