General Topology, chapter I, § 9. Compact spaces and locally compact spaces

The sum (§ 2, no. 4, Example 3) of a family (Xi)i∈I(X_i)_{i \in I} of paracompact spaces is paracompact.

Let XX be the sum of the XiX_i, and let (Vλ)λ∈L(V_\lambda)_{\lambda \in L} be an open covering of XX. The covering formed by the open sets Xi∩YλX_i \cap Y_\lambda is finer than (Vλ)(V_\lambda). For each i∈Ii \in I, let (Ui,μ)μ∈Mi(U_{i,\mu})_{\mu \in M_i} be a locally finite open refinement of the covering (Vλ∩Xi)λ∈L(V_\lambda \cap X_i)_{\lambda \in L}; then the open covering of XX formed by the

Ui,μ(i∈I, μ∈Mi for each i∈I) U_{i,\mu} \quad (i \in I, \ \mu \in M_i \text{ for each } i \in I)

is locally finite and refines the original covering (Vλ)(V_\lambda).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
