General Topology, chapter III, § 1. Topologies on groups

If GG is commutative, we have x.A.x−1=Ax . A . x^{-1} = A for every subset AA of GG and every x∈Gx \in G, and therefore (GV_{III}) [resp. (GV'_{III})] is automatically satisfied for every filter (resp. filter base) on GG. On the other hand, if GG is not abelian, then (GV_{III}) is not a consequence of (GV_{I}) and (GV_{II}) [see Exercise 5].

If GG is a commutative group, written additively, the axioms which characterize the filter B\mathfrak{B} of neighbourhoods of the origin for a topology compatible with the group structure of GG are therefore the following:

(GA_{I}). Given any U∈BU \in \mathfrak{B}, there exists V∈BV \in \mathfrak{B} such that V+V⊂UV + V \subset U.

(GA_{II}). Given any U∈BU \in \mathfrak{B}, we have −U∈B-U \in \mathfrak{B}.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
