General Topology, chapter III, § 2. Subgroups, quotient groups, homomorphisms homogeneous spaces, product groups

Let GG be a Hausdorff topological group and let MM be any subset of GG. Then the set M′M' of elements of GG which commute with each element of MM is a closed subgroup of GG. In particular, the centre of GG is closed in GG.

For M′M' is the intersection of the sets Fm(m∈M)F_m (m \in M), where FmF_m is the set of all x∈Gx \in G such that xm=mxxm = mx; and FmF_m is closed (Chapter I, § 8, no. 1, Proposition 2).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
