General Topology, chapter III, § 7. Inverse limits of topological groups and rings

Let GG be a group and let (Hα)(H_\alpha) be a family of normal subgroups of GG, directed with respect to the relation Hα⊃HβH_\alpha \supset H_\beta. If we endow GG with the group topology for which the HαH_\alpha form a fundamental system of neighbourhoods of the identity element ee, then the Hausdorff group associated with GG is isomorphic to G1=G/(⋂αHα)G_1 = G / \left( \bigcap_\alpha H_\alpha \right); G1G_1 has a completion G^1=G~\hat{G}_1 = \tilde{G}; and the canonical mapping G1→G~=lim←⁡G/HαG_1 \to \tilde{G} = \varprojlim G/H_\alpha extends to an isomorphism of G^=G^1\hat{G} = \hat{G}_1 onto G~\tilde{G}.

The subgroup HαH_\alpha of GG is open and therefore also closed (§\S 2, no. 1, Corollary to Proposition 4), and G/HαG/H_\alpha is discrete (§\S 2, no. 6, Proposition 18); hence the conditions of Corollary 1 are satisfied.

For the remainder of this sub-section we shall assume that GG is Hausdorff and that (Hα)(H_\alpha) is a family of compact normal subgroups of GG, which is directed with respect to the relation Hα⊃HβH_\alpha \supset H_\beta and which satisfies the condition (AP); by virtue of Proposition 2, the mapping

i:G→G~=lim←⁡G/Hα i : G \to \tilde{G} = \varprojlim G/H_\alpha

is then an isomorphism of topological groups which permits us to identify GG and G~\tilde{G}. We denote by fαf_\alpha the canonical mapping G→G/HαG \to G/H_\alpha.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
