General Topology, chapter V, § 1. Subgroups and quotient groups of R

\* As we shall see in Chapter VI, § 2, no. 4, the topological space T\mathbf{T} is homeomorphic to the circle x2+y2=1x^2 + y^2 = 1 in the real number plane R2\mathbf{R}^2; the product space T2\mathbf{T}^2 is homeomorphic to a torus of revolution in R3\mathbf{R}^3 (Chapter VII, § 1, Exercise 15). This is the origin of the name "one-dimensional torus" for T\mathbf{T} (in Chapter VII, § 1, we shall call Tn\mathbf{T}^n the n-dimensional torus) *.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
