General Topology, chapter VI, § 2. Euclidean distance, balls and spheres

The space Rn∗\mathbf{R}_n^* is homeomorphic to the product of Sn−1S_{n-1} and the space R+∗\mathbf{R}_+^* of real numbers >0> 0.

For every point x≠ox \neq o can be written uniquely in the form tztz, where t>0t > 0 and ∣∣z∣∣=1||z|| = 1, since x=tzx = tz implies t=∣∣x∣∣t = ||x|| and z=x/∣∣x∣∣z = x/||x||. Since tztz is continuous on the product R×Rn\mathbf{R} \times \mathbf{R}^n and hence a fortiori on R+∗×Sn−1\mathbf{R}_+^* \times S_{n-1}, and since ∣∣x∣∣||x|| and 1∣∣x∣∣\frac{1}{||x||} are continuous on Rn∗\mathbf{R}_n^*, the proposition is proved.

The mapping x→x/∣∣x∣∣x \to x/||x|| is called the central projection of Rn∗\mathbf{R}_n^* onto Sn−1S_{n-1}. One defines in the same way the central projection of the complement of a point aa onto a sphere with centre aa.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
