General Topology, chapter VIII, § 4. Complex number spaces and projective spaces

The quotient space Pn,p(C)P_{n,p}(\mathbf{C}) of the topological space Ln+1, p+1(C)L_{n+1,\ p+1}(\mathbf{C}) by the equivalence relation Δn,p(C)\Delta_{n,p}(\mathbf{C}) is called the space of projective linear varieties of p⩾0p \geqslant 0 dimensions in the projective space Pn(C)P_n(\mathbf{C}).

By the argument of Proposition 6 of Chapter VI, § 3, no. 5, we see first of all that Pn,p(C)P_{n,p}(\mathbf{C}) is Hausdorff. Next we prove that it is compact by replacing the subspace Vn+1, p+1V_{n+1,\ p+1} (in the proof of Proposition 7 of Chapter VI, § 3, no. 5) by the subspace Wn+1, p+1W_{n+1,\ p+1} of Ln+1, p+1(C)L_{n+1,\ p+1}(\mathbf{C}) consisting of systems of p+1p + 1 vectors which form an orthonormal Hermitian basis of the vector subspace they generate; that is to say, Wn+1, p+1W_{n+1,\ p+1} consists of the matrices X=(xij)X = (x_{ij}) which satisfy the conditions

∑j=0nxijx‾ij=1(1≤i≤p+1), \sum_{j=0}^n x_{ij} \overline{x}_{ij} = 1 \quad (1 \leq i \leq p + 1),
∑j=0nxijx‾kj=0(i≠k). \sum_{j=0}^n x_{ij} \overline{x}_{kj} = 0 \quad (i \neq k).

The proof of Proposition 8 of Chapter VI, § 3, no. 5 extends unaltered for the space Pn,p(C)P_{n,p}(\mathbf{C}) and shows that this space is connected and locally connected and that each of its points has a neighbourhood homeomorphic to Cp+1,(n−p)\mathbf{C}^{p+1,(n-p)}. Finally the proof of Proposition 9 of Chapter VI, § 3, no. 6 applies without change, and therefore the Grassmannian Gn,p(C)G_{n,p}(\mathbf{C}) is homeomorphic to Pn,p(C)\mathbf{P}_{n,p}(\mathbf{C}).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
