General Topology, chapter IX, § 2. Metric spaces and metrizable spaces

Let XX be a metric space and let dd be its metric. If X^\hat{X} is the completion of XX (with respect to the uniformity defined by dd), the function dd can be extended by continuity to X^×X^\hat{X} \times \hat{X}; the extended function d‾\overline{d} is a metric on X^\hat{X}, and the uniformity of X^\hat{X} coincides with that defined by the metric d‾\overline{d}.

Proposition 1 of § 1, no. 3 shows that d‾\overline{d} is a finite pseudometric on X^\hat{X}, and that the uniformity defined by d‾\overline{d} on X^\hat{X} is the uniformity obtained by completion; since this latter uniformity is Hausdorff, d‾\overline{d} is a metric. Whenever we consider the completion of a metric space XX as a metric space, it is always to be understood that the metric on X^\hat{X} is that obtained by extending the metric on XX by continuity.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
