Commutative Algebra, chapter III, § 2. General results on filtered rings and modules

Let AA be a filtered ring, (A,A,) its filtration, EE an AA-module and (EnE_n) the filtration on EE derived from that on AA consisting of the En=AnEE_n = A_n E. Suppose that the filtration (A,A,) is exhaustive and the module EE is finitely generated. If i:E→E^i : E \to \hat{E} is the canonical mapping, then, for all n∈Zn \in \mathbf{Z},

8n=A^nE^=A^ni(E)andE^=A^.i(E). 8_n = \hat{A}_n \hat{E} = \hat{A}_n i(E) \quad \text{and} \quad \hat{E} = \hat{A}.i(E).
In particular E^\hat{E} is a finitely generated A^\hat{A}-module.

The equation AnE=EnA_n E = E_n implies, by virtue of the continuity of the external law on the AA-module 8,A^nE^⊂88, \hat{A}_n \hat{E} \subset 8, and obviously A^nE^⊃A^ni(E)\hat{A}_n \hat{E} \supset \hat{A}_n i(E). By hypothesis there exists a surjective homomorphism u:L→Eu : L \to E, where L=AsIL = A_s^I, II being a finite set; let LL be given the product filtration, consisting of the Ln=AnIL_n = A_n^I, which define on LL the product topology; then L^=A^sI\hat{L} = \hat{A}_s^I and L^n=A^nI\hat{L}_n = \hat{A}_n^I (General Topology, Chapter II, § 3, no. 9, Corollary 2 to Proposition 18). Let j:L→L^j : L \to \hat{L} be the canonical mapping and (ei)i∈I(e_i)_{i \in I} the canonical basis of LL; for an element ∑i∈Iaij(ei)\sum_{i \in I} a_{ij}(e_i) (where ai∈A^a_i \in \hat{A} for all i∈Ii \in I) to belong to L^n\hat{L}_n, it is necessary and sufficient that ai∈A^na_i \in \hat{A}_n for all ii; then L^n=A^n.j(L)\hat{L}_n = \hat{A}_n . j(L). This being so, by definition u(L^n)=AnE=Enu(\hat{L}_n) = A_n E = E_n and hence uu is a strict morphism of LL onto EE (General Topology, Chapter III, § 2, no. 8, Proposition 24). Lemma 2 then shows that u^:L^→E^\hat{u} : \hat{L} \to \hat{E} is a surjective strict morphism. As L^n\hat{L}_n is an open subgroup off, u^(L^n)\hat{u}(\hat{L}_n) is an open (and therefore closed) subgroup of E^\hat{E}; but u^(L^n)=A^nu^(j(L))=A^ni(E)\hat{u}(\hat{L}_n) = \hat{A}_n \hat{u}(j(L)) = \hat{A}_n i(E) and, as i(En)⊂Ani(E)⊂A^ni(E)i(E_n) \subset A_n i(E) \subset \hat{A}_n i(E), finally E^n⊂A^ni(E)⊂A^nE^⊂E^n\hat{E}_n \subset \hat{A}_n i(E) \subset \hat{A}_n \hat{E} \subset \hat{E}_n and therefore E^n=A^nE^=A^ni(E)\hat{E}_n = \hat{A}_n \hat{E} = \hat{A}_n i(E); setting n=0n = 0, we obtain the second formula of (25).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
