Commutative Algebra, chapter IV, § 2. Primary decomposition

Let AA be a Noetherian ring, MM an AA-module, NN a submodule of MM and (Qi)i∈I(Q_i)_{i \in I} a primary decomposition of NN in MM. Then Card(I)≥Card(Ass(M/N))\mathrm{Card}(I) \geq \mathrm{Card}(\mathrm{Ass}(M/N)); for (Qi)i∈I(Q_i)_{i \in I} to be a reduced primary decomposition, it is necessary and sufficient that Card(I)=Card(Ass(M/N))\mathrm{Card}(I) = \mathrm{Card}(\mathrm{Ass}(M/N)).

It follows from the remarks preceding Proposition 4 that there exists a reduced primary decomposition (Rj)j∈J(R_j)_{j \in J} of NN in MM such that Card(J)≤Card(I)\mathrm{Card}(J) \leq \mathrm{Card}(I); the first assertion then follows from the second and the latter is a consequence of Proposition 4.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
