Let M *be a module over a Noetherian ring, N a submodule of M, N=⋂i∈IQi a primary decomposition of N in M and, for all i∈I, let {pi}=Ass(M/Qi). For this decomposition to be reduced, it is necessary and sufficient that the pi be distinct and belong to Ass(M/N); then
(2)
Ass(M/N)=i∈I⋃{pi}
(3)
Ass(Qi/N)=j=i⋃{pj}for all i∈I.
If the condition of the statement is fulfilled, N=⋂j=iQj cannot hold, for we would deduce that Ass(M/N)⊂⋃j=i{pj} (§ 1, no. 1, Corollary 2 to Proposition 3) contrary to the hypothesis; the primary decomposition (Qi)i∈I of N is then certainly reduced. Conversely, Ass(M/N)⊂⋃i∈I{pi} always holds (§ 1, no. 1, Corollary 2 to Proposition 3); on the other hand, for all i∈I, let us write Pi=⋂jQj; then Pi∩Qi=N and Pi=N if (Qi)i∈I is reduced, hence Pi/N is non-zero and is isomorphic to the submodule (Pi+Qi)/Qi of M/Qi, whence {pi}=Ass(Pi/N) (§ 1, no. 1, Proposition 3 and Corollary 1 to Proposition 2); as Pi/N⊂M/N,pi∈Ass(M/N), which completes the proof of the necessity of the condition in the statement and formula (2). Finally, as N=⋂j=i(Qj∩Qi),Ass(Qi/N)⊂⋃j=iAss(Qi/(Qj∩Qi)) (§ 1, no. 1, Corollary 2 to Proposition 3); but Qi/(Qj∩Qi) is isomorphic to the submodule (Qi+Qj)/Qj of M/Qj, hence Ass(Qi/(Qj∩Qi))⊂{pj} and
Ass(Qi/N)⊂j=i⋃{pj};
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
