Commutative Algebra, chapter V, § 3. Finitely generated algebras over a field

Let AA be an integral domain and BB a finitely generated AA-algebra containing AA as a subring. Then there exist an element s≠0s \neq 0 of AA and a subalgebra B′B' of BB isomorphic to a polynomial algebra A[Y1,…,Yn]A[Y_1, \ldots, Y_n] such that B[s−1]B[s^{-1}] (Chapter II, § 2, no. 1) is integral over B′[s−1]B'[s^{-1}].

We write S=A−{0}S = A - \{0\} and let k=S−1Ak = S^{-1}A the field of fractions of AA; clearly S−1BS^{-1}B is a finitely generated kk-algebra and, as it contains kk by hypothesis (Chapter II, § 2, no. 4, Theorem 1), it is not reduced to 0. By Theorem 1 (applied top = 1 and ai=0a_i = 0) there exists therefore a finite sequence (xi)1≤i≤n(x_i)_{1 \leq i \leq n} of elements of S−1BS^{-1}B which are algebraically independent over kk and such that S−1BS^{-1}B is integral over k[x1,…,xn]k[x_1, \ldots, x_n]. Let (zj)1≤j≤m(z_j)_{1 \leq j \leq m} be a system of generators of the AA-algebra BB; in S−1BS^{-1}B each of the zj/1z_j/1 satisfies an equation of integral dependence

(zj/1)aj+∑h<ajPhj(x1,…,xn)(zj/1)h=0 (z_j/1)^{a_j} + \sum_{h < a_j} P_{hj}(x_1, \ldots, x_n)(z_j/1)^h = 0

where the PhjP_{hj} are polynomials in the xix_i with coefficients in kk. There exists an element s≠0s \neq 0 of AA such that we may write xi=yi/sx_i = y_i/s whereby, ∈B\in B for 1≤i≤n1 \leq i \leq n and all the coefficients of the PhjP_{hj} are of the form c/sc/s where c∈Ac \in A; finally, replacing if need be, ss by a product of elements of SS, we may assume that in BB

szjaj+∑h<ajQhjzjh=0 sz_j^{a_j} + \sum_{h < a_j} Q_{hj}z_j^h = 0

where the QhjQ_{hj} are polynomials in y1,…,yny_1, \ldots, y_n with coefficients in AA; if we write zj′=szjz'_j = sz_j, it is seen, multiplying (6) by saj−1s^{a_j-1}, that zj′z'_j is integral over B′=A[y1,…,yn]B' = A[y_1, \ldots, y_n]. We show that the yiy_i are algebraically independent over AA; if there is a relation of the form ∑papy1p1…ynpn=0\sum_p a_p y_1^{p_1} \ldots y_n^{p_n} = 0 where ap∈Aa_p \in A for all pp, we deduce that ∑pap′x1p1…xnpn=0\sum_p a'_p x_1^{p_1} \ldots x_n^{p_n} = 0 in S−1BS^{-1}B, where ap′=apsp1+⋯+pna'_p = a_p s^{p_1 + \cdots + p_n} in kk; by hypothesis therefore ap′=0a'_p = 0 for all pp, whence ap=0a_p = 0 for all pp. Moreover, in the ring B[s−1]B[s^{-1}] each of the zj′/1z'_j/1 is integral over B′[s−1]B'[s^{-1}] (§ 1, no. 1, Proposition 2) and, as zj/1=(zj′/1)(1/s)z_j/1 = (z'_j/1)(1/s) in B[s−1]B[s^{-1}], it is seen that the zj/1z_j/1 are integral over B′[s−1]B'[s^{-1}], which completes the proof (§ 1, no. 1, Proposition 4).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
