Commutative Algebra, chapter VI, § 9. Application: locally compact fields

If KK is a locally compactfield, thefunction mod, belongs to V(K)\mathscr{V}(K) (§ 6, no. 1). Moreover: (i) If s>0s > 0 is such that (mod⁡K)s=g(\operatorname{mod}_K)^s = g is an absolute value, then gg defines the topology on KK. (ii) If KK is not discrete and mod, is an ultrametric absolute value, there exists a normed discrete valuation vv on KK whose ring is compact and whose residuefield is finite with qq elements, so that mod⁡,=q−v\operatorname{mod}, = q^{-v}. The topology on KK is defined by vv.

This follows from § 6, no. 1, Proposition 1, § 5, no. 1, Proposition 2 and Integration, Chapter VII, § 1, no. 10, Propositions 12 and 13.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
