Algebra, chapter I, § 8. Rings

Let b1,…,bnb_1, \ldots, b_n be two-sided ideals of AA such that bi+bj=Ab_i + b_j = A for i≠ji \neq j. Then b1∩b2∩⋯∩bn=∑σ∈Snbσ(1)bσ(2)⋯bσ(n)b_1 \cap b_2 \cap \cdots \cap b_n = \sum_{\sigma \in S_n} b_{\sigma(1)} b_{\sigma(2)} \cdots b_{\sigma(n)}. In particular, if AA is commutative, b1∩b2∩⋯∩bn=b1b2…bnb_1 \cap b_2 \cap \cdots \cap b_n = b_1 b_2 \ldots b_n (cf. Exercise 2).

Suppose first n=2n = 2. There exist a1∈b1,a2∈b2a_1 \in b_1, a_2 \in b_2 such that a1+a2=1a_1 + a_2 = 1. If x∈b1∩b2x \in b_1 \cap b_2, then x=x(a1+a2)=xa1+xa2∈b2b1+b1b2x = x(a_1 + a_2) = x a_1 + x a_2 \in b_2 b_1 + b_1 b_2. Hence b1∩b2=b1b2+b2b1b_1 \cap b_2 = b_1 b_2 + b_2 b_1.

Suppose now the equation of the proposition is established for all integers <n< n. By Proposition 6, bn+(b1b2…bn−1)=Ab_n + (b_1 b_2 \ldots b_{n-1}) = A and hence

b1∩b2∩⋯∩bn=(b1∩b2∩⋯∩bn−1)bn+bn(b1∩b2∩⋯∩bn−1) b_1 \cap b_2 \cap \cdots \cap b_n = (b_1 \cap b_2 \cap \cdots \cap b_{n-1}) b_n + b_n (b_1 \cap b_2 \cap \cdots \cap b_{n-1})
=(∑σ∈Sn−1bσ(1)bσ(2)⋯bσ(n−1))bn = \left( \sum_{\sigma \in S_{n-1}} b_{\sigma(1)} b_{\sigma(2)} \cdots b_{\sigma(n-1)} \right) b_n
+bn(∑σ∈Sn−1bσ(1)bσ(2)⋯bσ(n−1)) + b_n \left( \sum_{\sigma \in S_{n-1}} b_{\sigma(1)} b_{\sigma(2)} \cdots b_{\sigma(n-1)} \right)
⊂∑τ∈Snbτ(1)bτ(2)⋯bτ(n)⊂b1∩b2∩⋯∩bn. \subset \sum_{\tau \in S_n} b_{\tau(1)} b_{\tau(2)} \cdots b_{\tau(n)} \subset b_1 \cap b_2 \cap \cdots \cap b_n.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
