Algebra, chapter I, § 8. Rings

Let AA be a ring and (b1,…,bn)(b_1, \ldots, b_n) two-sided ideals of AA such that bi+bj=Ab_i + b_j = A for i≠ji \neq j. The canonical homomorphism of AA into ∏i=1n(A/bi)\prod_{i=1}^n (A/b_i) is surjective of kernel ⋂i=1nbi=∑σ∈Snbσ(1)bσ(2)⋯bσ(n).\bigcap_{i=1}^n b_i = \sum_{\sigma \in S_n} b_{\sigma(1)} b_{\sigma(2)} \cdots b_{\sigma(n)}.

Clearly the kernel is ⋂i=1nbi\bigcap_{i=1}^n b_i. To prove the surjectivity, it is necessary to show that, for every family (xi)1≤i≤n(x_i)_{1 \leq i \leq n} of elements of AA, there exists x∈Ax \in A such that x≡xi(bi)x \equiv x_i (b_i) for all 1≤i≤n1 \leq i \leq n. We prove this assertion by induction on the cardinal nn of II, the case n≤1n \leq 1 being trivial. By the induction hypothesis, there exists y∈Ay \in A such that y≡xi(bi)y \equiv x_i (b_i) for 1≤i≤n−11 \leq i \leq n-1. We look for an xx of the form y+zy + z with z∈Az \in A. Of necessity z≡0(bi)z \equiv 0 (b_i) for i<ni < n, that is z∈b=⋂i=1n−1biz \in b = \bigcap_{i=1}^{n-1} b_i, and on the other hand z≡xn−y(bn)z \equiv x_n - y (b_n). Now bn+b=Ab_n + b = A by no. 9, Proposition 6, whence the existence of zz. Finally, the second expression of the kernel follows from no. 9, Proposition 7.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
