Algebra, chapter II, § 7. Vector spaces

Let

⟨x,xi∗⟩=ηi(i∈I) \langle x, x_i^* \rangle = \eta_i \quad (i \in I)

be a system of scalar linear equations on a vector space E over a field K. For this system to have at least one solution, it is necessary that, for every family (ρi)(\rho_i) of scalars of finite support such that ∑ixi∗ρi=0, ∑iηiρi=0.\sum_i x_i^* \rho_i = 0,\ \sum_i \eta_i \rho_i = 0. If the rank of the system (21) is finite, this condition is also sufficient.

The condition is obviously necessary. It says that, if F′F' is the subspace of E∗E^* generated by the family (xi∗)(x_i^*), there exists a linear mapping f:F′→Kdf : F' \to K_d such that f(xi∗)=ηif(x_i^*) = \eta_i for all i∈Ii \in I. If F′F' is of finite dimension rr, F′F' is the orthogonal of a subspace FF of EE of codimension rr (no. 5, Theorem 7) and F′F' is identified with the dual of E/FE/F (§ 2, no. 6, Corollary to Proposition 9); ff is therefore an element of the bidual (E/F)∗∗(E/F)**. As E/FE/F is finite-dimensional there exists one and only one element y∈E/Fy \in E/F such that f(x∗)=⟨y,x∗⟩f(x^*) = \langle y, x^* \rangle for all x∗∈F′x^* \in F' (no. 5, Theorem 6). The solutions of (21) are then the x∈Ex \in E whose canonical image in E/FE/F is yy.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
