Algebra, chapter II, § 7. Vector spaces
Let be an injective homomorphism of a field into a ring . For every left vector space over , the canonical mapping is injective. Moreover, for every vector subspace of , is canonically identified with a direct factor sub--module of and, with this identification,
The first assertion is a special case of § 5, no. 1, Proposition 4; the second is a special case of no. 7, Proposition 14; finally, to show (35), it suffices to take in (considered as a right -module) a basis such that for some index (no. 1, Theorem 2); the elements of can be written uniquely as with and, for such an element to belong to , it is necessary and sufficient that for all . On the other hand, the elements of are those for which for ; for an element to belong to , it is necessary and sufficient that for and , whence the conclusion.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
