Algebra, chapter II, § 7. Vector spaces

In a module EE over an integral domain AA, the set TT of non-free elements is a submodule of EE.

If xx and yy are not free, there exist two non-zero elements α,β\alpha, \beta in AA such that αx=0\alpha x = 0 and βy=0\beta y = 0. Then αβ≠0\alpha \beta \neq 0 since AA is an integral domain and αβ(λx+μy)=0\alpha \beta (\lambda x + \mu y) = 0 for all λ\lambda and μ\mu in AA since AA is commutative, hence λx+λy\lambda x + \lambda y is not free.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
