Algebra, chapter IV, § 4. Formal power series

— Let u∈A[[I]]u \in A[[I]]; then for lim⁡n→∞un=0\lim_{n \to \infty} u^n = 0 to hold it is necessary and sufficient that the constant term of uu should be nilpotent.

Let a0a_0 be the constant term of uu. The constant term of unu^n is α0n\alpha_0^n, hence the stated condition is necessary; it is sufficient by Prop. 3.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
