Algebra, V, p. 21, § 4. Algebraically closed extensions

Let K be a field and (fi)i∈I(f_i)_{i \in I} a family of non-constant polynomials in K[X]K[X]; then there exists a splitting extension for the family (fi)i∈I(f_i)_{i \in I}.

We may take the polynomials fif_i to be monic (Remark 1). Let i∈Ii \in I and let the degree of fif_i be did_i. By IV, p. 73, Prop. 5 there exists a commutative algebra AA, over KK, not reduced to 0, and elements ξi,1,…,ξi,di\xi_{i,1}, \ldots, \xi_{i,d_i} of AiA_i such that :

a) the algebra AiA_i is generated by (ξi,1,…,ξi,di)(\xi_{i,1}, \ldots, \xi_{i,d_i});

(1) Take for example K=QK = \mathbf{Q} and f=X3−2f = X^3 - 2.

b) we have fi(X)=∏k=1di(X−ξi,k)f_i(X) = \prod_{k=1}^{d_i} (X - \xi_{i,k}) in Ai[X]A_i[X].

Let AA be the tensor product of the family of algebras (Ai)i∈I(A_i)_{i \in I}, and let φi\varphi_i be the canonical homomorphism of AiA_i into AA (III, p. 470). The algebra AA is then commutative and not reduced to 0; by Krull's theorem (I, p. 104), there exists thus a maximal ideal aa in AA and E=A/aE = A/a is an extension of the field KK.

Denote by ψ\psi the canonical homomorphism of AA into EE and put xi,k=ψ(φi(ξi,k))x_{i,k} = \psi(\varphi_i(\xi_{i,k})) for i∈Ii \in I and l≤k≤dil \leq k \leq d_i. Since the algebra AA is generated by ⋃φi(Ai)\bigcup \varphi_i(A_i), the extension EE is generated by the family (xi,k)(x_{i,k}). Further, we have i∈Ii \in I

fi(X)=∏k=1di(X−xi,k) in E[X]. f_i(X) = \prod_{k=1}^{d_i} (X - x_{i,k}) \text{ in } E[X].

Therefore EE is a splitting extension of the family (fi)i∈I(f_i)_{i \in I}.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
