Algebra, chapter V, § 6. Etale algebras

— Let K′K' be an extension of KK.

a) For a KK-algebra AA to be etale, it is necessary and sufficient that the K′K'-algebra A(K′)A_{(K')} should be etale.

b) Let A′A' be an algebra over K′K', not reduced to 0. For A′A' to be etale over KK it is necessary and sufficient that A′A' should be etale over K′K' and K′K' etale over KK.

We argue as for Cor. 1, applying this time (8) for a) and (9) for b).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
