Integration, chapter VIII, § 5. The space of closed subgroups

— Let GG be a locally compact group satisfying the following condition: (L) There exists a neighborhood of ee in GG that contains no finite subgroup of GG not reduced to ee. The following properties then hold: (i) The set DD of discrete subgroups of GG is locally closed in Σ\Sigma (which is equivalent to saying that it is locally compact). (ii) For a closed subset AA of DD to be compact, it is necessary and sufficient that there exist a neighborhood UU of ee in GG such that H∩U={e}H \cap U = \{e\} for every subgroup H∈AH \in A. (iii) If in addition GG is generated by a compact neighborhood of ee, then the set DcD_c of discrete subgroups HH of GG such that G/HG/H is compact is locally closed in Σ\Sigma (hence is locally compact).

We have Dc=D∩Σc0D_c = D \cap \Sigma_c^0, therefore (iii) is a consequence of (i), and Th. 1 (ii) of No. 3.

With the notations of No. 3, Prop. 7, it suffices, for proving (i) and (ii), to prove that:

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
