Integration, chapter IX, § 4. Inverse limits of measures

— Let (μi)i∈I(\mu_i)_{i \in I} be an inverse system of measures on the inverse system of spaces T=(Ti,pij)\mathscr{T} = (T_i, p_{ij}). Assume given a topological space T′T' and continuous mappings pi′:T′→Tip'_i : T' \to T_i; assume that the family (pi′)i∈I(p'_i)_{i \in I} is coherent, but not necessarily separating. If Prokhorov's condition (P) is satisfied by the family (pi′)i∈I(p'_i)_{i \in I}, there exists a measure μ′\mu' (not necessarily unique) on T′T' such that pi′(μ′)=μip'_i(\mu') = \mu_i for all i∈Ii \in I.

For, set T=lim⁡←TiT = \lim_{\leftarrow} T_i and p′=(pi′)i∈Ip' = (p'_i)_{i \in I}, and denote by pip_i the canonical mapping of TT into TiT_i; Prokhorov's condition is satisfied by TT and the pip_i, because pi(p′(K′))=pi′(K′)p_i(p'(K')) = p'_i(K') and p′(K′)p'(K') is compact in TT for every compact subset K′K' of T′T'. By Th. 1, there exists a bounded measure μ\mu on TT such that pi(μ)=μip_i(\mu) = \mu_i for all i∈Ii \in I. Let K′K' be a compact set in T′T'; then μ∙(p′(K′))=inf⁡i∈Iμi∙(pi′(K′))\mu^\bullet(p'(K')) = \inf_{i \in I} \mu_i^\bullet(p'_i(K')), whence

μ∙(T−p′(K′))=sup⁡i∈Iμi∙(Ti−pi′(K′)). \mu^\bullet(T - p'(K')) = \sup_{i \in I} \mu_i^\bullet(T_i - p_i'(K')).
Let ε>0\varepsilon > 0; since Prokhorov’s condition (P) is satisfied by the pi′p_i', one can therefore find a compact subset K′K' of T′T' such that μ∙(T−p′(K′))≤ε\mu^\bullet(T - p'(K')) \leq \varepsilon. Prop. 8 of §2, No. 4 then establishes the existence of a bounded measure μ′\mu' on T′T' with μ=p′(μ′)\mu = p'(\mu'), whence μi=pi(μ)=pi(p′(μ′))=pi′(μ′)\mu_i = p_i(\mu) = p_i(p'(\mu')) = p_i'(\mu') for all i∈Ii \in I.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
