Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 2. Enveloping algebra of a Lie algebra

If gg admits a totally ordered basis (xλ)λ∈Λ(x_\lambda)_{\lambda \in \Lambda}, the elements xλ1xλ2…xλnx_{\lambda_1} x_{\lambda_2} \ldots x_{\lambda_n} of the enveloping algebra UU, where (λ1,…,λn)(\lambda_1, \ldots, \lambda_n) is an arbitrary increasing finite sequence of elements of Λ\Lambda, form a basis of the K-module UU.

Let Λn\Lambda_n be the set of increasing sequences of nn elements of Λ\Lambda. For M=(λ1,…,λn)∈ΛnM = (\lambda_1, \ldots, \lambda_n) \in \Lambda_n, let yM=xλ1⊗xλ2⊗⋯⊗xλny_M = x_{\lambda_1} \otimes x_{\lambda_2} \otimes \cdots \otimes x_{\lambda_n}. Let WW be the submodule of TnT^n with basis (yM)M∈Λn(y_M)_{M \in \Lambda_n}. Corollary 1 shows that the restriction of ψn\psi_n to WW is an isomorphism of WW onto a supplement of Un−1U_{n-1} in UnU_n. But

ψn(yM)=xλ1xλ2…xλn, \psi_n(y_M) = x_{\lambda_1} x_{\lambda_2} \ldots x_{\lambda_n},

whence the corollary.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
